Customer Question
Her Belly is distended...

Her Belly is distended and hard, was not that way 4 hours ago. Has had this symptom increasingly often. wandering around trying to vomit, but only stringy clear discharge

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?

Not unusual, bits of left over steak, about 1.5 OZ on kibble at dinner 6 hours ago. my other pet had the same thing, both loved it. She is just over 15 years old.

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Dixie Dog

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the dog?

On Thyroid meds, beginning to have issues with incontinence, but have only given her 25 mg phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride on Saturday evening, saw a similar result. Always a dirt and grass eater, perhaps as an analgesic?

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner and I'm sorry to hear of this in Dixie Dog. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Dixie Dog, please? While there's rarely just one thing going on in a 15 year old, gastric bloat is my primary concern at this time. A bloated dog can progress to gastric dilatation/volvulus - a twisting of the stomach on its axis - which is quickly life-threatening.

I didn't get an answer from you? Anyway, I took her to the 24X7 vet clinic, got an Xray, and subcutaneous Famotidine, and Maropitant. Here bloating appeared to be gas, and the X-ray didn't seem to indicate a twisting of the stomach. She is feeling better today, but faces full blood tests and a bland diet for a few weeks.

No, I didn't respond prior to 6:57 AM (my time). Perhaps another expert? In any event, I'm please to hear that she's doing better. I appreciate your taking the time to let me know.
