My 60lb hound mix ate about a half bottle of 75mg

Customer Question
My 60lb hound mix...

My 60lb hound mix ate about a half bottle of 75mg proin...its the night before thanksgiving and I can't get a hold of any vet. He's already thrown up all over the place. Now his eyes are dialated and he's panting a lot. Seems to be calming down slowly though.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Hooch, he's an 11 month old Shepard lab mix

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Hooch..

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?

He's very hyperactive to begin with and has been diagnosed hyperactive by a vet

Hello, I came home from work at 4pm to let the dogs out, they were fine no problems. Then when I came home at 11pm he was panting at the door and the hair on his back standing up, eyes dialated and couple huge puke piles on the floor.

Thanks.

Best thing he could have done is vomit everything up.

I need some more info

How many pills do you think he ate?

I need to calculate the mg/kg dosage he ingested

75mg each, and he probably ate 20
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
The panting has subsided
Dog Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Thanks

Works out to 50.0 mg/kg approximately

The symptoms of overdose are very much dose dependent with this drug

There are a lot of things we have to watch for. I am really hoping that he got a lot out of his system with the vomiting.

Ideally you would go to the ER because we need to check for high blood pressure, assess heart rate, support with fluids and monitor for other clinical problems like low blood sugar, slow or fast heart rate, agitation etc etc.

IF you are not able to then you can try activated charcoal at home 2 grams/kg and repeat in 6-8 hours time.
