Hi there and thank you for your question. My name is ***** ***** I am a licensed, internship-trained veterinarian with 12 years experience in general medicine and emergency and critical care medicine and I would be happy to assist you. Please be patient as there may be slight delays in responses as I research your pet's issue and as I am typing out a response.

Any vomiting? Is your dog still eating and drinking?

only vomit once during all of this. still eating but not drinking much
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Ann M., Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Okay. As long as a dog is eating, then he is drinking enough to keep himself hydrated. Is he on monthly heartworm preventative? I ask because it contains a basic dewormer in it, which would make intestinal parasites less likely as the cause for diarrhea.

No maam
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Ann M., Dog Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Okay. So parasites is a possibility. I would get a stool sample and drop it off at your local vet clinic (if you hurry you can get it in before they close today) and have them test it for parasites. Then I would feed a bland diet of boiled chicken breast mixed with white rice for the next week or so until the stools are normal. Give either a dose of human probiotic twice a day (any kind) or a tablespoon of plain yogurt twice a day until things resolve. Then see what the stool test shows and have your vet give dewormer as needed. As long as your dog continues to eat, you can try this before taking him in to the vet. But as long as your dog has been seen by your vet within the past year, they should be willing to check a stool sample for you without seeing the dog. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I hope that I have answered your question thoroughly. If you still have questions or are not yet satisfied with my answer, please reply. If you feel that I have provided anything less than excellent service (5 star rating), please reply to me first before rating my service and let me know how I can better assist you. Thank you for your question; it has been a pleasure being able to provide assistance. Bonuses are appreciated... it's always nice to get tipped for your services. Best of luck.
