I don't know how long it has been. I was away for 10 hours and found it when I came home. I already induced vomiting an hour ago. He is acting totally normal
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
18.3 oz. of fudge brownie mix
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
5-12% cocoa. That's about 1-2 g cocoa
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
No. That's 2.5-6 g cocoa roughly
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Peter, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Since we aren't sure when it was ingested I am unsure if vomiting will make a difference at this point, especially since he has already done this on his own. Please monitor tonight for

  • Further Vomiting
  • GI Upset
  • Hyper Tension
  • Hyperactivity
  • Restlessness

If you see muscle tremors, vomiting is not subsiding, or hyper excitability then please consider a veterinary er because these can be issues with chocolate toxicity. But if you see gi upset only then this should pass within the next 24 hours

Typically chocolate toxicity symptoms peak at 4-6 hours so if you pass this suspected mark without symptoms then he should be just fine but taking a few precautions tonight:

- Pepcid (famotidine) 0.25 mg per pound every 12 hours for 3 days
- Leash walks to help the chocolate pass more readily of >15 minutes
- Tomorrow bland diet (nothing more tonight as a precaution) of white rice and lean boiled meat such as chicken in small more frequent meals but waiting at least 12 hours after vomiting has subsided if he shows this symptom

I hope this information makes sense but please let me know who else I can assist you both today

I just want to know about toxicity levels. He seems fine.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Altman, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

If there is only 1-2 grams cocoa which is 0.1 ounces this shouldn't be an issue. No to mild symptoms at most and there is a good possibility you have passed or are in the 4-6 hour window at this point without symptoms also a good sign

Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Altman, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

You can use this site as a model but only let's you put in full ounces which indicates mild to moderate symptoms (10 times the 0.1 ounces)

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you both
