Hi, I️ have a 3 Month old Great Pyrenees and she is about 30-31 pounds, she ate about 6-7 pills of Relexine and those are 300mg

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Luna

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Luna?

She was attacked by another dog, she has stitches and is in a cone, she’s been throwing up since we got home. There was a 2 hour window in which she accessed the pills

At 30 pounds (13.6 kg) and ingesting 7 x 300 mg (2100 mg) this would be an ingestion of 154 mg/kg dose

According to the veterinary formula Acute oral cephalosporin overdoses are unlikely to cause significant problems other than GI distress, but other effects are possible

So we simply need to treat the vomiting by removing all food and water tonight and the vomiting should subside. If it doesn't in the next few hours despite removing everything orally please consider a veterinary er to give injectable medications. But the good news is there is no toxicity just gi upset from this ingestion

1- Keep indoors to avoid eating grass/ leaves and again no food/ water for 6-8 hours from last vomiting episode

2- Offer a small amount of water (1-2 teaspoons hourly) for a few hours in 6-8 hours

3- Start Pepcid (famotidine) 0.25 mg/ pound every 12 hours OR prilosec (omeprazole) 0.5 mg/ pound daily for the next 3 days with the second administration of water (crushed if needed)

4-If no vomiting, offer small amount of white rice and boiled boneless or ground chicken or ground beef. For example, one tablespoon hourly for a few hours then slowly start to increase the amount while reducing the frequency. Keep on this diet for several days then wean into regular diet.

5- If vomiting continues after doing the above, I would encourage having your family veterinarian perform an examination to determine the next step to getting Luna comfortable

Indications your dog should be seen by a veterinary er sooner include: sticky gums that are pale, yellow, blue, purple, temperature rectally >103.5, progressive lethargy with less responsiveness to you, vomiting or diarrhea that includes blood, resting respiratory rate (breaths per minute) >60, swollen abdomen.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you both today
