I'm sorry to hear of this with Bear. Please note that DM is a slowly progressive myelopathy (spinal cord disorder) often taking 6-12 months to cause the ataxia ("drunken sailor") and loss of conscious proprioception (not knowing where one's limbs are in space) you're currently seeing. Bear's myelopathy is more likely to repesent degenerative disk disease (a "slipped disk") or perhaps fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE) - an interruption in the vascular supply to his spinal cord. Pragmatically speaking, we can only address the inflammation caused by spinal cord compression from a bulging or ruptured disk. DM and FCE don't respond to conservative (medical) therapy. If Bear is to improve he'll need to respond to a nonsteroidal antifinflammatory drug (NSAID) such as carprofen, meloxicam, or grapiprant +/- a skeletal muscle relaxant such as methocarbamol or diazepam +/- a narcotic analgesic such as tramadol. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
