My mini goldendoodle Oliver bit into my albuteral inhaler…

Customer Question
Hi. My mini goldendoodle Oliver...
Hi. My mini goldendoodle Oliver bit into my albuteral inhaler this morning. I stupidly thought it just seeped into the air. He has been lethargic most of the day (although he has been walking around more), has a rapid heartbeat, and had a loose bowel movement (he has not thrown up). We gave him water, gatorade (read that it can help replenish electrolytes), and gave him his puppy ice cream because it looked like he did not eat alot of his food, wanted to make sure he ate something. Should I continue doing what I am doing or should I take him to the hospital?

So....I think your pup is going to be fine...he probably did ingest some but not enough to hurt him...puppies have relatively high heart rates normally usually around 180-220 beats per minute.....not sure if the loose stool related to the albuterol...could be, but could be due to gatorade if that was given in large enough quantity and before the diarrhea.

However, if he loses his appetite, starts vomiting or continues to have loose stool then you should definitely see a vet as soon as possible. I would try and stick with his normal diet as much as possible as giving him gatorade for this will not help anyway. Plain pedialyte is safer and should be diluted 50/50 with water when electrolyte replacement needed..

This question will stay open for several days if you have other questions...if any other signs develop see your vet immediately or go to the nearest vet ER. I hope that helps, DRB
