Do you have an idea of how much was ingested, how old the meat was (and how long in garbage), and how long ago?

If your dog ingested this within the last hour then you can induce vomiting with 3% hydrogen peroxide 1 tsp per ten pounds then walk around to mix it in the stomach and agitate the lining. If no vomiting within 10-15 minutes it can be repeated once only in hopes of inducing vomiting.

The concern is the bacteria in the meat so minimizing digestion and absorption would be strongly advised

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

As with any ingestion please monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, reduced appetite after the initial attempts to vomit

If seen then please take a few precautions:

- Pepcid (famotidine) 0.25 mg per pound every 12 hours for 3 days

- Leash walks to help the remaining meat pass more readily of >15 minutes but also reduce nausea and abdominal cramping

- Tomorrow a bland diet of white rice and lean boiled meat such as chicken in small more frequent meals but waiting at least 12 hours after vomiting has subsided if there is this symptom

If there is active vomiting without resolution, blood in the stool, reduced appetite x 24 hours, abdominal swelling then please seek medical attention since there is concern about E coli and Clostridia with this ingestion

Please let me know if you have any additional questions I can assist with or clarify.
