My dog ate my custom orthotic insoles in my shoes. Will she be okay? Should I take her to an animal hospital?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Kona. 7 months

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Kona?

Nothing I can think of. She’s 27 pounds and a beagle mix. No other health problems

Great thanks!

so unfortunately this is a very common scenario for young dogs but this can be truly life threatening and the sooner it is dealt with the better...usually this type of ingestion will lead to a possible obstruction. Once the patients are obstructed then their condition can deteriorate rapidly....I would go ahead and take your dog to the ER now.....can I answer any questions for you before you go?

What are the signs of an obstruction?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Primarily vomiting and lethargy......

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Usually when a total obstruction occurs a dog will not be bale to hold anything down...but partial obstructions can also occur and cause major problems in the stomach and intestines....once in intestines surgery more risky...

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Easier and safer to get foreign material out of stomach rather than intestines...
