Customer Question
My dog threw up...

My dog threw up twice, but is acting normal. However I am missing one ibuprofein 400mg off the table but I have no other reason but the sudden throwing up to believe my dog might've picked it up off the floor.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did your dog eat anything unusual?

Hah, he did but that's unavoidable. I don't think so? But he's only a year old so sometimes outside he picks up stuff before I can pull him away such as rabbit droppings. It wouldn't be far fetched that he ate something like that.

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. What is the dog's name?

Mickey. I just really need to know if there'd be signs if he had indeed eaten the medicine accidentally and if I should do something if he did.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Mickey?

Mittelspitz, 7,3kg, he's acting normally, neutered male.

Hi.

Dr. Paul Brazzell here.

This is a pretty high does- enough to cause gastrointestinal effects.

How long ago did he eat the pill?

If less than two hours then give 2.0 ml/kg of hydrogen peroxide by mouth and wait up to twenty minutes for Mickey to vomit.

I have no idea if he's eaten it or not, that's the issue, nor would I know when he's eaten it. He's thrown up twice and I happened to notice I can't find one pill on the table and got scared if the two are connected. Wanted to know if he'd show signs if he had eaten the pill and if there's something else I need to do than keep an eye on him.
Dog Veterinarian: DocPaul, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

If he had thrown up subsequent to eating the pill then that is not a bad thing. There is a chance that IF he ate the pill he has removed any remaining parts of it from his system.

How is he doing now?

I apologize for the delay getting back to you the computer program was not working properly from my end.
