I have a 7...

I have a 7 month old French bulldog puppy - yesterday she went to doggie daycare and played all day. When I picked her up she had really red eyes - the people at the daycare said they were just bloodshot from her being tired. They are still really red this morning.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help the French bulldog. What is the French bulldog's name?

Her name is***** there a way I can send a picture?

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Frannie?

She is in good heath otherwise - I haven’t noticed anything with her eyes before.

Sure you can load the pictures on here using the paper clip icon at the top of this chat box. Is she rubbing at her eyes or are her eyes bothering her? Is she squinting in bright light or is there any drainage?

The redness is in both eyes - just one is more so than the other.

Are you still there?

Looking at pictures now. just a sec.

Can you answer these questions for me while I'm looking please.

Is she rubbing at her eyes or are her eyes bothering her? Is she squinting in bright light or is there any drainage?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
She is not rubbing her eyes and they don’t seem to bother her. There doesn’t appear to be light sensitivity. There is some drainage, but I think it’s what it usually is.

That is definitely not normal. In the picture it looks like the tissue under the eyelid called "conjunctiva" is severely inflamed. This can be caused by infection or trauma. It is really really red. I do think she should see the emergency vet to get some anti-inflammatory eye drops. There are no over the counter eye drops that will help.

Okay, good to know! I’ll take her to our vet! Thanks for your help!

You are very welcome. I am glad you showed me the pictures. It is a lot worse than I thought it would be.

Okay - yes, I didn’t think it was quite normal. Glad I asked!

Yes, that is not blood shot. It is inflamed tissue. I hope she feels better.
