Hello, this is Dr. Linda. I hope I can help with your question today.

I would not recommend using the celecoxib on your mastiff. Searle did pharmacokinetic studies on celecoxib use in dogs many years ago & found that the drug is inconsistently metabolized by dogs. Some metabolize it fast, some more slowly, resulting in either overdosages, or no therapeutic results at all. No single dose could thus be established. This inconsistent metabolism in dogs is the main reason Searle did not develop celecoxib for dogs. They did go on to develop a metabolite called deracoxib, marketed as Deramaxx for dogs.

I hope this makes sense & you find the information useful. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thank you.

how about aspirin and what would be the dose for a dog that size

Buffered aspirin can be dosed at 10 - 20 mg/kg every 12 hours. I do not recommend going more than 3 days, as canine - approved NSAIDS generally have significantly fewer GI effects than does aspirin.
