Customer Question
2 y/o yellow lab...

2 y/o yellow lab with moderate IBD, symptoms of diarrhea or vomiting appeared every few months b4 diagnosis. Has motility issues after treatment began which is worse without cisipride. also has arthritis, laryngeal paralysis with associated neurological symptoms in rear legs, with muscle wasting. has a hip replacement that's 5 years old. Shes on a probiotic, budesonide , gabapentin, tramadol, sucralfate, Pepcid, cerenia, and cisipride. Tummy issues seem to be under control, but shes got a lot of pain from the arthritis. I'm looking for quality of life for her and am considering weaning off budesonide and giving her liquid nsaid which she has responded to favorably in the past. A holistiv minded vet agreed that this could be a reasonable option. your opinion?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?

What???

Veterinarian's Assistant: What is the dog's name?

Abby

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Abby?

I don't believe so

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. I think your idea is reasonable but a non-COX inhibitor non-steroidal antinflammatory drug such as grapiprant (Galliprant) should be the choice rather than the COX inhibitors which are more likely to cause gastrointestinal disturbances...particuarly in a patient with a history of IBD. Is it your intention to manage Abby's IBD with diet, sucralfate, famotidine (Pepcid), maropitant (Cerenia), and cisapride? Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
