My three year old dog had a routine dental cleaning today.

Customer Question
Hello, My three year old dog...
Hello,
My three year old dog had a routine dental cleaning today. He has a history of slightly elevated BUN and also Bile Acid so the vet followed a protocol for patients with liver problems as a precaution.
He’s been home about eight hours and has vomited about 7 or 8 times. There is no gagging of retching, instead a clear vomit just drools out. His demeanor has been improving but he just vomited a small amount five minutes ago. Should I be concerned? I gave him a 1/2 portion of dinner per the vet’s instructions which he ate.

I am sorry to hear you are worried about your dog. I just came online and saw your question; how is he doing now?

If you lift his lip to check his gums, are they pink in color?

I would not be too worried about vomiting unless it does not stop, or if he won't eat or drink, or if his gums are pale. You can try some Pepcid AC (famotidine) for vomiting; I need to know how much he weighs to give you a dose.

Thank you for your reply.
I don’t think his gums are pale. I think the Pepcid AC sounds promising as he is still vomiting small amounts of what might be stomach acid.
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

Good his gums are not pale. How much does he weigh?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 2 months ago

If he is 25 pounds, he would take 5 mg of Pepcid, every 12 hours.

It was not Claritin D, just plain Claritin (loratadine)?

Sorry! I was meaning to check to see how your dog is doing and got confused with another dog that got Claritin!

How is he doing? Please let me know if my answer was helpful!
