Customer Question
Hello, I just came home...
Hello, I just came home from being out to dinner and my 19 pound dog just ate an Extend Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar. It is 1.41 oz. and he ate it all. It says it has 11g of protein, but more worrisome is the fact that it has unsweetened chocolate as the 12th ingredient. What do you suggest I do?
Thanks - Jason

Hello, this is Dr. Benedetta, and I would like to help with your question.

Your dog is most likely fine from a chocolate toxicity because even with the most toxic chocolate, baking chocolate. he would have to ingest 0.8 oz of it, which would be more than half of the bar, to suffer for a severe effect.

He may still have an upset stomach and some diarrhea from the bar, and it would be a good idea to keep him on a non fat diet for a few days.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions, and how the dog is doing after the ingestion!

Benedetta Sarno, DVM
