My vet said my 10 year old golden retriever needs his spleen removed because he has a tumor. What is the recovery period? How long will he need to stay in the hospital following surgery before he can be moved and sent home?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Some lumps are serious and some aren't. Let's see what the Veterinarian has to say. What is the dog's name?

Marty

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Marty?

He's in good health other than this recent problem.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today.

Generally speaking, these patients tend to do well post-operatively. So, usually they only nee to be hospitalized a day or two (if at all, depending on their stability of course). Otherwise, they need to be rested at home for 1-2 weeks with the sutures coming out at 10-14 days post operation.

Kind regards,

Dr. B.

I aim to provide best care for you just as I do for my own clients & their pets. If you have any other questions, please ask – I’m happy to help but please rate me with the **STARS** (or leave a written rating of 1-5; 5 being great) as this is the only way I am credited for my work by the site & this allows me to continue to help here. This is included in your question fee. Once you rate, your question will not close & you can still ask follow-up questions. Thank you. : )**
