Customer Question
Winter is a 12...

Winter is a 12 month old german shepherd pedigree. She has just started to not bear weight on her right hind leg. She cries in pain when lying down. Duration so far about 20 mins. No obvious signs of injury or blood

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The noise must be worrying. I'll connect you to the Veterinarian. What is the dog's name?

Her name's Winter... a white swiss shepherd

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?

She is a typical "kid" who runs around a lot although no exercise today. Three other dogs in the house including her mother, grandfather and "uncle"

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Winter, please?

Unless she spontaenously recovers in a few days, such a young shepherd will need her entire limb examined for the orthopedic disorders common to large breed dogs in the hind limb - hip dysplasia, osteochondrosis of the stife or hock, panosteitis (usually a shifting leg lameness), mainly. I would expect her vet to attempt to localize the problem to Winter's hip or lower in the limb and then X-ray the area. If pathology is seen, X-rays of both hind and front limbs should be considered as osteochondrosis, at least, can affect more than one joint. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
