My 5 lb puppy ate a 40 mg simparica

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if the puppy will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

According to EMEA, Simparica (sarolaner) was found to be well tolerated by animals treated with the recommended treatment dose of 2–4 mg sarolaner/kg bw. However, at overdoses (3X or more the recommended dose) neurological effects (tremor, ataxia, convulsions) were observed. Cricket ingested 40 mg/2.3 kg = 17.4 mg/kg.

In a margin of safety study, Simparica was administered orally to 8 week old Beagle puppies at doses of 0, 1, 3, and 5 times the maximum exposure dose of 4 mg/kg at 28 day intervals for 10 doses. No adverse effects were observed at the maximum exposure dose of 4 mg/kg. In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment.

It was smart to induce emesis. Was it effective? If not, you can repeat the same dose. Neurologic effects are possible if an appreciable amount of this drug were absorbed into her system prior to emesis. She would then be treated supportively and symptomatically by her vet. There's no specific antidote for sarolaner toxicity.

She vomited but i only found her dogfood and no pill. She is eating and playing normally
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Hopefully, it had dissolved and a significant amount of it was still vomited. Monitor her carefully, please, for those symptoms I mentioned. That was potentially a significantly toxic dose likely to cause neurologic effects. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

After about 20-30 minutes she got up and drank a lot of water she has not vomited.
