My Maltese is 15 years old with conjestive heart failure.

Customer Question
My Maltese is 15...

My Maltese is 15 years old with conjestive heart failure. She's on a few meds to control it which has been fine, but tonight she is constantly wining and crying. Her temp is 97 degrees. What could be the problem?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The noise must be worrying. I'll connect you to the Veterinarian. What is the Maltese's name?

Lola

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Lola?

She still eats and drinks normally and has 4 other Maltese in the household. She spent a lot of yesterday sleeping, but she can still walk and climb stairs

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Lola, please?

While her whining and crying are important symptoms, they're not pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one particular disorder. Whining and crying usually indicate anxiety, pain, or both. 97F is subnormal which can indicate serious metabolic and infectious disorders but it can also indicate that a rectal thermometer had been placed inside feces.
