It would be unlikely that a 150 lb dog would be intoxicated unless he ingested greater than 0.3 grapes per pound of body weight - 45 grapes for Admiral. Grape toxicity is idiosyncratic (peculiar) as well; in other words, most dogs can ingest grapes to their heart's content without harm. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

I think he ate about 15 to 20 grape, I made him vomit everyone says that it is extremely toxic, i made him vomit should i make him drink something or eat something, and how will i know if he is getting really sick from the grapes
Customer reply replied 10 months ago
maybe 25, because he left the stem
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

Vomiting will be even more protective. He didn't ingest enough grapes to be of concern. Grape toxicity involves the kidneys which can be damaged and result in vomiting, diarrhea, increased thirst and volume of urine, and a painful abdomen as evidenced by "splinting" of his abdomen. These symptoms can arise between 12-24 hours after ingestion. Please continue our conversation if you wish.

It's best to fast a dog for at least 6 hours following the last vomiting episode in order to rest his GI tract. If drinking water induces more vomiting you can replace his water with ice cubes for him to lick.

what happens then will it be too late for treatment,? how come it states that eating grapes are so toxic but you think he will be ok?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

Because "so toxic" doesn't have any meaning. I know what the toxic dose of grapes and raisins is...and he didn't ingest that toxic dose and you induced emesis to boot. No, it's not to late to treat but that won't be necessary for Admiral.

ok but I need to wait 24 hrs to know for sure that he is ok?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

Yes, that would be prudent.

If he got sick after 24 hrs could they still treat him
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

At 7:20 PM (my time) I posted: "No, it's not too late to treat but that won't be necessary for Admiral." May I have an update on him, please?
