Unless Cocoa's gums are normally a golden brown, I need to consider methemoglobinemia in such a patient. This describes a damaged form of hemoglobin circulating through his body. Hemoglobin can be oxidized by certain drugs such as paracetamol, mothball toxicosis, or smoke inhalation and hemoytic anemia also can result in methemoglobinemia. Please clarify if his gums are nomally that color or the color has recently arisen.

ok he had pink gums but his eyes are yellow i was looking on line and saw that same thing you mension and hes not eatting now what do i need to get him to make him better
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

If his eyes are yellow he's jaundiced. That occurs from red blood cell breakdown which can also cause the methemoblobinemia I mentioned earlier. Liver/gall bladder disease is another common cause of jaundice. Cocoa is going to need the attention of his vet who will need to perform a thorough physical exam including diagnostics in the form of blood and urine tests. Particular attention needs to be directed to Cocoa's complete blood count (CBC). Treatment for Cocoa will be predicated upon the findings in his exams. Time is of the essence as these dogs are quite ill. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
