Greetings, I'm Dr. Peck, a small animal veterinarian in general practice.58lb = 26kgSynthroid is a brand of levothyroxine used in people.Levothyroxine in dogs is dosed at initially 0.02mg/kg.0.02mg/kg x 26kg = 0.52mg by mouth twice daily. After initial diagnosis of hypothyroidism and initially of levothyroxine, bloodwork should be rechecked 4-6 weeks later. Based on updated thyroid values on the bloodwork, the dosage is adjusted. This is continued until an appropriate dosage is achieved. Necessary doses vary per animal so bloodwork is a necessity in identifying the correct dose for a given dog.
