Customer Question
I have a small...

I have a small dog ***** *****, Chihuahua mix, his bottom jaw just dropped down and he started drooling. he could eat and drink. he got into a fight with my other dog, and now his jaw is lower in the left hand side, he still drools. he drinks because he can move his tongue, but he can't eat , can't move his jaw. I've been feeding him soup through an eye dropper. I try to feel his jaw I don't feel any dislocation, but I don't know, should I wait see if its heals itself. He an older dog and his teeth have been bad since I acquired him I think he's about 9 yrs old

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help the Chihuahua. What is the Chihuahua's name?

Spot, he looks more ***** *****, it's was my granddaughters

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the Chihuahua?

Just his bad teeth, I take him for daily walk and he's find except for his jaw drooping

Hi. My name is***** I'm sorry to hear about this situation with Spot. I'm going to be honest here and say that the best thing to do at this time for him is to get him to your vet. They can evaluate his oral cavity well and possibly take some x-rays to see what that reveals. IN a situation like this, could he have a dental issue that is preventing him from eating (some can have a tooth knocked out of place preventing normal chewing). Could he have a dislocated jaw? Could he have a jaw fracture? These are all the big considerations. At home, all you can do is give him basic nursing care with assisted feedings and time. Your vet can determine the cause and be able to do something more direct for the issue.
