My pet dog has mast cell tumors on skin and is now on

Customer Question
My pet dog has...

My pet dog has mast cell tumors on skin and is now on predisone and antihistamine therapy. This a.m. I noticed one bleeding slightly as if a pimple opened up.. She is going for her 21 day check-up in two days and is on palladia also. Should I be concerned right now or is that just a side effect. So far she is not showing any side effects otherwise. It is stage and grade III,but has not spread elsewhere but on the skin, not internally.

Hello, this is Dr. Linda. I hope I can help with your concerns today.

It is not unusual for any of these raised nodules to bleed occasionally. As you know, this is not normal tissue, so any small irritation or tiny trauma can initiate a small bleed. These usually are minor bleeds, even despite the release of histamine granules from the lesion. I would gently dab the area with a little peroxide & place a little triple antibiotic on it. Since you already have a recheck scheduled so soon, there is no need to rush your pet in ( unless your veterinarian instructed you to call immediately if anything changes in any of the lesions ).

Your dog is on an excellent protocol. I hope it works well for her.

I hope you find the information useful. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Thank you.
