I think my 14 lb dog ingested tomcat mouse poison -from when we were at a friends cabin this weekend , we just caught her chewing on it

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Did you see what the dog ate?

There is only a smidge left

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?

Looks like the mouse poisen we found in the cabin, we thought we got it all , but she must have hidden some in her crate and -now ate it that we are home - she is 11 months yorkie about 14-15 pounds

Hello again,

I have very quickly worked out an answer for you below.

1. Well if you are sure that the Tomcat was swallowed just now then one of the best things you can do in this sort of situation is to make your dog sick immediately and try recover the Tom Cat that way. If you can do this within the first hour after ingestion then things should be OK. For the sake of speed I will give you a link on how to do this best : LINK

{ Also be aware that an ER vet will be able to quickly induce vomiting with prescription drugs }

2. However these rodent poisons are very toxic to dogs, especially small dogs, so if you are in any doubt on the timing then take your dog to a vet ASAP { Even if this means using an ER vet }. There is a very good antidote for many forms of rodent poison which your vet will have available.

3. But in any case I should be available online for you the next four or five hours today so please do not hesitate to get straight back to me if your Yorkie's condition changes in any way or you would like to talk things over with me further.

Regards,

Dr Scott
