Customer Question
Hi I have a...

Hi I have a dog with Cushings. He takes 10mg 2x/day and he is 17lbs. My wife accidentally gave him his vetoryl instead of his denamarin this morning. So I gave him 10 more my an hour later if vetoryl and he hasn't had his denamarin at all. He has been lethargic and panting today. We just figured out the mistake. This happened about 10:30am and it's almost 5:00pm now. Should I skip his disease tonight? Do I give him the denamarin at all today at this point?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help the dog. What is the dog's name and age?

Edison. 14

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Edison?

He is in process every 10-14 days of being tested to figure out the right dosage of vetoryl right now. His liver values are still a little off but have improved greatly.

Unfortunately, accidents like this happen all the time but, fortunately, they rarely cause significant issues.

More than likely, the double dose of Vetoryl that he received is responsible for the way he's behaving especially since lethargy can be seen as a listed side effect of this drug.

If he were my patient, I'd advise you to skip the evening's dose of Vetoryl and resume his regular schedule tomorrow if he seems to be his normal self.

I don't see why you wouldn't give him his Denamarin dose this afternoon if he's been tolerating it well (which I assume to be the case). Or skip today's dose (which shouldn't be a problem since it's a supplement) and restart tomorrow if you prefer for him to receive it in the am.

If he's still lethargic and panting tomorrow, then a vet visit..or at least a phone call to them... would be wise.

I hope this helps, Deb
