Hello, I'm Dr. Kara. I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian and I'd like to help. Please give me a moment to review your concerns.

  1. Is this the ingredient list for the product your pup ingested? https://labeling.bayercare.com/omr/online/oad-women-vitacraves-gummies.pdf
  2. Is xylitol listed on the ingredients anywhere in your bottle?
  3. How long ago did he eat these vitamins?
  4. Is he currently taking any medications/supplements?

The biggest concern with vitamin ingestion is added xylitol and vitamin D.

The rest of the ingredients should be tolerated fairly well as a one time high dose, especially the water soluble vitamins (C, B-6, B-12, folic acid, Biotin)

If Corbitt ingested 8 gummies he ingested 6,400IU of vitamin D, (8 X 800IU = 6,400IU). There are 40mcg of vitamin D per IU, (6400IU/40mcg per IU = 160mcg) so he ingested 160mcg or 0.160mgs (1,000mcg per mg).

Your pup is 10 pounds, which is 4.54kgs (2.2 pounds per kilogram)

A toxic dose of D-3 is 0.5mg per kilogram of body weight or 2.27mgs for your pup (0.5mg/kg X 4.54 kgs = 2.27 mgs)

Your pup should be fine, other than possibly some mild stomach upset.

Give me a few moments to type up some recommendations to help ease his upset stomach.

Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Kara, Veterinarian replied 10 months ago

If he has an upset stomach to try and settle his stomach now you can give either:
1) Pepcid-ac (famotidine) at a dose of one half of a 10mg tablet per 10 to 20 pounds of body weight every 12 hours.
OR
2) Prilosec (omeprazole) at a dose of one quarter of a 20mg tablet per 10 to 20 pounds of body weight every 24 hours.
These will reduce stomach acid and should help with upset related to simple nausea and gastrointestinal irritation from eating something he should not have. They can be given for several days if need be.

If things are going well and he isn't vomiting start a bland diet of 1/3 boiled hamburger (or white skinless chicken), all fats and juices drained off mixed with 2/3 boiled, plain white rice. Feed several small meals a day. After 48 to 72 hours with no vomiting and feeling well start mixing in his regular dog food very slowly. Less bland more regular with each day. It should take a week or so to convert him back.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
