Dogs that can't keep their eyes open usually are experiencing pain in one or both eyes. When the pupils are dilated, painful glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure) neeeds to be considered. In that case, time is of the essence because glaucoma can blind quickly. It would be prudent to have this dog attended to by his vet at your dad's earliest convenience. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
