I am sorry to hear you are concerned about Poppy. Is the bleeding coming with the diarrhea, or somewhere else?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

Diarrhea with blood is a sign of colitis, inflammation of the lining of her colon. Many things cause colitis. Some are serious and some are not.

If she is eating, not vomiting, not dehydrated, then feeding a bland diet might be all she needs. It might help to give her some Pepto Bismal or Immodium; how much does she weigh?

If she is not eating, if she is vomiting, if her gums look pale rather than pink, then this may be more serious.

It's coming with the diarrhea she is eating fine and not vomitting and she is drinking ok as well . Do I just feed her pasta n chicken with dry food . If she is pregnant will her pups b ok she got mated 3 weeks ago this Monday coming
Dog Veterinarian: Rebecca, Dog Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

I would feed pasta and boiled chicken, and hold off on dry food until the diarrhea slows down.

It depends on what is causing her diarrhea, if it affects her pregnancy. If you are worried about her, I would have her checked out by your veterinarian if this does not stop in a day or so.

My dog is having colitis related problems. He had a colitis
He had a colitis flare up on 19 Feb. - Initial symptoms were passing a lot of wind, discomfort. His stool started off okay, but by the third one it was mucusy. I went to the vet and she gave him a steroid injection. He responded within a couple of days and went back to normal. 7 days later, the symptoms returned. He was gassy again and his stool comtained a lot of mucus plus a small dot of red blood. The vet prescribed prednicare tablets - 2 a day for 5 days, and then 1 a day for 10 days. He responded very well, until day 8 (today) - he won't eat today - his stomach is making gurgling noises, and he is eating grass. He hasn't vomited so far, and his stools are normal. What do you think is happening, and what can I do to help him - should I withhold food for today? … read more
