Customer Question
Black scabs all over...

Black scabs all over her head and body; very itchy. I tried putting hydrocortizone last week on her belly and they cleared up, but now they are all over her head and body, legs. What's the best way to treat this and what is it?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. What sort of animal are we talking about?

Cocker Spaniel, 6 years old female

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. Using the wrong medication for fleas can be dangerous. You should definitely talk to the Veterinarian. What is the cocker spaniel's name?

Bella

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Bella?

Long history of skin allergies and late last year reoccurring ear infections which we now clean out the ears 3 times a week to keep the ear yeast at bay.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Can you upload a photo(s) of representative skin to our conversation? You can upload photos by using the paperclip or add file icon in the toolbar above your message box (if you can see those icons on your particular device) or you can use an external app such as dropbox.com/

I can be more accurate for you if I can see what you're seeing. I suspect you're seeing a superficial spreading pyoderma - bacterial skin infection usually caused by Staph and often a sequela of allergic dermatitis.
