Customer Question
We just got kittens...

We just got kittens last weekend. We have a 10 year old German shepherd and he hasn't eaten in three days. He stays upstairs and will only come down once or twice a day. I don't think it's associated with the kittens though. He doesn't seem to be bothered by them or even really care when he sees them. I think he may be losing his hearing. Concerned mama over here

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if the kitten will be able to digest that. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the kitten?

I'm not asking about the kittens

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner and I'm sorry to hear of this with your GS. Regretfully, his anorexia and reclusiveness while important signs aren't pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one particular disorder. Most important, however, is that three days of anorexia will leave any dog significantly weakened and at 10 years of age can be life-threatening. His vet will want to perform a thorough physical exam including diagnostics in the form of blood and urine tests and I encourage your having that done at your earliest convenience. Time is of the essence at his age. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
