Customer Question
My dog threw up...

My dog threw up clear mucus liquid twice this morning & my husband just told me he put antibiotic ointment on a hot spot yesterday. It contains bactracin, neomycin sulfate & polymxin-b sulfate. If he licked it, could that be causing this? She I take him to the emergency vet? He weighs 105 lb, is 8 years old. Seems to be acting normal but not wanting to eat right now.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. The Expert will know if your dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Zack

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Zack?

He has a perpetual skin condition that flares up a couple times a year but other than that is super healthy.

Yes, ingestion of these topical antibiotic products can cause transient gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea but Zack wasn't intoxicated and needn't be seen by an ER. Diluting however much was ingested by overfeeding and encouraging the intake of tasty fluids in the form of milk, cream, broths, or bouillons should suffice and will be appreciated by Zack. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
