My Beagel ate 2 of my thyroid pills he has vomited 3-4 hrs today now he just is lying around is that normal

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about your dog?

It's very difficult to intoxicate a dog with thyroid hormone. Even egregious doses are well-tolerated. Please tell me the ingredient (or brand name) in your pills.

Could it be pramipexole which is prescribed for treatment of restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, Parkinson's disease, or tardive dyskinesia?

I guess that is it I couldn't c the name and he ate more than that probably 7 pills
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 8 months ago

How long ago might he have ingested it? I'll see if I can find toxicity studies in dogs for that drug.

He ate it about 11:00 am

This is what I found: "CNS (central nervous system) - related signs were mainly observed which at high doses included
ataxia ("drunken sailor"), dyspnea (difficulty breathing), and tremor/convulsions. Vomiting occurred at low doses."

This isn't a drug given to dogs and so there's no specific information concerning an ingestion of 7 pills. It's too late to induce emesis and so treatment would be symptomatic and supportive only. I need you to check his vital signs for me, please...

1) Check his gum and tongue color. They should be nicely pink - not whitish (anemia) or bluish/greyish (cyanosis/hypoxia/lack of oxygen to his tissues).

2) Check his respiratory rate. He should be taking less than 30 breaths/minute and greater than 6-8 breaths/minute while asleep or at rest.

3) Take his rectal temperature. Any body thermometer will do when placed 1.5" into his rectum for 1 minute. Normal is 100.5-102.5F. This is a two person job!

Please let me know what you find.

Thank you. Are you comfortable staying up with him to monitor him periodically? Do you have access to a 24-hour veterinary facility who could monitor him for you?
