My 15 week old boxer mix rescue just had her vaccines three

Customer Question

hi. my 15 week old boxer mix rescue just had her vaccines three days ago (distemper and bordatella) and she has progressively been crying/squealing/whimpering when she wakes from sleep and sometimes when awake. she won't go into her crate which is not like her and sometimes when going through these episodes doesn't want us to pick her up, but sometimes it seems like she just wants to cuddle. she has also been on febendazole (?) for giarhdia which ended last week. her stool is normal consistency. i went to the emergency vet last night who told me it could be a prolonged but i guess normal vaccine reaction and gave her an anti-inflammatory which was supposed to help but didn't. her temperature and exam were normal. im thinking i should take her back to her regular vet today but maybe she's anxious from going to all the vets? we've had her for less than two weeks and she's been to four already. i've never had a dog before and can't afford to miss something. thanks for your help - amanda

I'm sorry to hear of this with Maddie. By the principle of Occam's Razor, I'll attribute her behavior to a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to her vaccine(s). This should abate within 72 hours unaided but if not needs to be addressed as a more serious systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) with an immunosuppressive dose of a glucocorticoid (steroid) such as prednisone. Can you tell me, please, which anti-inflammatory drug was administered/prescribed to Maddie by the ER vet?
