I have a 10 lb Chihuahua. She is on 6.5 mg of Lasix a day.

Customer Question

I have a 10 lb Chihuahua. She is on 6.5 mg of Lasix a day. Because she is also under chemo for mast cell cancer, and Lasix has a bad effect on her kidney, so we cannot up her Lasix. Recently her breathing is getting a little worse. Should we break the pill into two and give her half dosage twice a day? Would that make a difference?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Sassy
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Sassy?
Customer: Nothing else, just her heart and cancer treatment.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Sassy, please? If you've been giving Lasix to address heart failure and Sassy has become dyspneic (difficulty breathing), you have to choose the lesser of two evils and increase her Lasix dose until her respiratory rate drops below 30 breaths per minute.
