Hi! She was just vomiting quite a bit and we thought she was choking so we checked but there diesn't seem to be anything lodged in her throat. However, she's hiccuping and licking her lips still and it's consistant

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?

Not that I know of, just her kibble.

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. What is the dog's name and age?

Her name is ***** ***** she's a 2 year old west highland terrier

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Winnie?

She doesn't have any health problems or anything, no.

so hiccuping and lip licking is a direct sign of nausea.....

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
not in the past 15 minutes, she did vomit quite excessively earlier. Most of her dinner.
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
In the past little bit it has just been hiccups, licking, and swallowing w a smacking sound with her mouth
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 9 months ago

how is her activity level?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
She is just laying with me right now, but this is usually her down time
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 9 months ago

well it is hard to say whether this is serious or not because we don't know what caused this.....

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
Should I take her into a vet? or wait until the morning?
Customer reply replied 9 months ago
I guess our biggest fear is that she's choking on something but we really don't think taht there's anything lodged in her throat. It makes sens that she could just be nauseous, but this is the first time she's ever acted like this.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr B, Veterinarian replied 9 months ago

If she vomits again or any other clinical signs develop you should definitely go to the ER.....if not you can make the decision to wait......but I cannot recommend that you wait...does that make sense?

If you do not have any other questions please rate me as this is how I make money to support my family. Please give me a positive rating as that is the only way I am compensated. A positive rating will not close this question and I am more than happy to answer any follow up questions that you have. ( You can rate me at top right of page).

Please remember my answers do not replace or supersede the advice of your veterinarian as my answers do not create a valid client patient relationship as I am unable to examine your pet. Thank you very much! DrB
