Is the picture vomit or poop?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
I thought it was poop but my dog is tiny so I don't know
Dog Veterinarian: Richard Rawling,

It does look like poop, rather than vomit but it can be difficult to tell. How is his appetite?

Customer reply replied 8 months ago

He seems to be the same but he's poop is solid but squishy dark out side green inside
Dog Veterinarian: Richard Rawling,

So no further signs of blood? Is he still straining?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
He does strain and I believe the dark stool is blood
Dog Veterinarian: Richard Rawling,

Is he still eating?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
When I see him eat...he acts like he starving
Dog Veterinarian: Richard Rawling,

Sounds like he has a good appetite then!

I suspect the signs you are seeing are due to colitis. This is simply inflammation of the large bowel. The straining, blood in stool and mucus on his stools are all classic signs of colitis. It sounds like he is showing some signs of improvement so that is good. I would advise feeding a light diet for the next few days - plain boiled chicken and rice, a little scrambled egg, plain white fish or light cottage cheese.
This can help take the strain off an irritated digestive system and help things settle down.

My dog is having colitis related problems. He had a colitis
He had a colitis flare up on 19 Feb. - Initial symptoms were passing a lot of wind, discomfort. His stool started off okay, but by the third one it was mucusy. I went to the vet and she gave him a steroid injection. He responded within a couple of days and went back to normal. 7 days later, the symptoms returned. He was gassy again and his stool comtained a lot of mucus plus a small dot of red blood. The vet prescribed prednicare tablets - 2 a day for 5 days, and then 1 a day for 10 days. He responded very well, until day 8 (today) - he won't eat today - his stomach is making gurgling noises, and he is eating grass. He hasn't vomited so far, and his stools are normal. What do you think is happening, and what can I do to help him - should I withhold food for today? … read more
