Customer Question

My dog occasionally gets a swollen nipple. It lasts for a few days then goes away, so I was just doing some research as to why this happens a few times a year. She is fixed and is about 13 years old.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Goldie
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Goldie?
Customer: No, she acts like a puppy so very energetic and happy, except in thunderstorms.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Because she's spayed we can rule out sex hormone influence on this nipple and because the swelling waxes and wanes we can rule out a cancer and infection. That leaves cystic changes such as a cystic tumor that fills with fluid only to empty or perhaps cystic hyperplasia (benign overgrowth of normal tissue). Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
