He ate a little bit of grape this morning at 9am, but he doesn't have any symptoms or pain or anything

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. What sort of animal are we talking about?

He is a mix of lab and great Dane, he is 4months old

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know if the great dane will be able to digest that. What is the great dane's name and age?

Heisenberg and he's 4months

Veterinarian's Assistant: How old is Heisenberg?

4 months old

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Heisenberg?

Not really, he's pretty healthy

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb and will do my best to help with this concern about Heisenberg.

How many grapes did he eat?

How much does he weigh?

And, just to confirm, he ate them quite a few hours ago, correct? (We may be in different time zones which is why I ask).

Thanks, Deb

Hi! He didn't eat even a full grape, he was playing with it. And I took when I saw, but it was open already . He weights 30 pounds. It's been about 7hours ago.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Deb, Dog Veterinarian replied 11 months ago

I'm so sorry that I was off my computer when you responded back with the answers to my questions.

Under the circumstances, since he was basically playing with grape and didn't actually eat much (if any) of it, then there should be no worries about toxicity issues.

For future reference, the problem with grapes is that not all dogs or cats will react in a negative way when they ingest even large amounts of them while others might experience toxicity issues (usually involving the kidneys) after ingestion of only a few. The underlying cause of this toxicity is unknown which is why it's best to induce vomiting in the majority of cases where dogs have ingested grapes (or raisins for that matter) if it's been less than 2 hours after ingestion.

One fairly consistent characteristic of toxicity is that the patient will start to have GI upset and/or depression within the first 6-24 hours after ingesting toxic levels of grapes. If we can treat this patients quickly enough (in the first 18 hours), usually there's a good outcome.

But, as I said above, Heisenberg didn't ingest enough of the one grape for there to be a concern about him; he should remain fine.

I hope this helps although, again, my apologies for the delayed reply. Deb

Hello again,

I assume that Heisenberg is fine but I just wanted to double check. Deb
