Customer Question
I have a 13...

I have a 13 year old Brittany who has been diagnosed with sensitive stomach. I have been feeding her baked chicken, oatmeal and pumpkin and she was fine for awhile. But now her am poop is always solid but poops in the afternoon or evening are very loose and mucous looking. She is fine otherwise. Low energy but she is an older dog. She has been exrayed, total blood work and fecal analysis, and ultra sound and all came back negative.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help the Brittany. What is the Brittany's name?

Belle and my concern is her mushy stool.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the Brittany?

Rescue 2 years ago. I believe she had quite a few litters and she has had to have most of her teeth extracted. She also has frequent ear infections. She had a vestibular episode where she was so dizzy she could barely walk. Got her on antic iotics, prednisone and ear drops and that seem to take care of it.

Chronic ear infection are a common sign of Dog Atopy, systemic allergies. The pollen & molds are absorbed thru the skin and a systematic released of histamine and other inflammatory chemicals are released.
Is your veterinarian doing ear cytology & gram stains of the ears?Sensitive "tummy" is common with both food intolerances & a diet too high in fiber & fat. Home diets are an excellent option, you do need clarification on where to be using unique proteins & carbohydrates vs a low residue diet. Will monitor for your response.

my vet is doing ear cytology and stains and her ear infection is under control. I was more interested n what would cause solid stools on the AM and loose stools in the PM with a diet of chicken oatmeal and pumpkin.
Dog Veterinarian: DrRoyC, Dog Veterinarian replied 11 months ago
Chicken is not a unique or novel protein, so if her problem is food allergy or intolerance. The stool will consistency will vary. Did your veterinarian talk about/discuss allergy diets?
