He very lethargic and acting like hes drugged, hes about 1 year old and yorkie/ schnauser mix

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help the Yorkie. What is the Yorkie's name?

Ryker

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Ryker?

He was fine 2 hours ago, and playing now he doesnt even want a treat, when he walks its like hes drunk

You may be correct. Could Ryker have found a prescription or recreational drug and ingested it? Was he treated with a parasiticide? Does Ryker have a history of seizure disorder? Finally, had he been fed within the last two hours?

Not that we know of, but I have terrible allergies and could have dropped an allegra or claritan allergy pill.
Customer reply replied 11 months ago
no seizures or parasiticide treatments, and yes he was fed early this morning

My wife just decided to take dog to ER, we live 100 miles from nearest vet ER clinic so I was trying you folks out to save the trip but puppy is pretty bad so she headed down the road, thank you for your rapid replies.
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 11 months ago

Thank you for the additional information. Both Allegra and Claritin are considered non-sedating but Ryker is a little guy and one of those pills could conceivably cause him to appear "drugged". I asked about his being fed because he has Yorkie in him. This breed is over-represented by vascular anomalies affecting the liver (a portosystemic shunt, e.g.). Compromised hepatic processing of blood after uptake of nutrients can lead to hepatoencephalopathy - a poorly functioning liver intoxicating the brain - which then can lead to the "drunken sailor" appearance of Ryker at this time. You would see Ryker slowly improve if this were the case only to recrudesce (relapse without cure in between events) after the next feeding particularly if it contained a high amount of protein.
