17 year old, normally 5 pound spayed female. She has become very thin. She has pink, creamy stool with flecks of frank blood. Stool specimen was negative for parasites. She does not show signs/symptoms of pain, no lethargy. No vomiting. No change in appetite.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. This sounds like it might be serious. I'll let the Veterinarian know what's going on ASAP. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the dog?
Customer: Pomeranian. Have noticed this stool on and off for several weeks.

Have you changed her food recently? How is her appetite?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No change in food. Diamond Small Breed lamb & rice - tiny kibble. Have not noticed appetite change. She has never eaten much. Some of the stool looks like internal tissue. My fear with her age is cancer.

Has she lost significant amounts of weight?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Well, starting at 5 pounds, she was tiny. I have not weighed her, but she is light as a feather and boney. She has a lot of hair which disguises it. It would say it is significant/noticable.

Has she had any blood work done so far?

No

If she has lost a lot of weight, along with the ongoing diarrhea, that would be my first recommendation. I would be keen to have her checked for liver and kidney problems and to rule out diabetes.
