Customer Question

5 week old golden retriever has diarrhea and threw up. The vomit is pure white and chunky. The diarrhea came out with force. She tried to pee, but nothing happened. Do I go to an emergence vet tonight or wait until am?
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the dog eat anything unusual?
Customer: No, not that we know
JA: OK. The Veterinarian will know what to do. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Bill
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Bill?
Customer: Seems very sleepy

Hi this is Dr. Sara. How many times has she vomited and had diarrhea today? What is her demeanor like? Does she seem depressed/lethargic?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Lethargic, diarrhea and vomiting started about 6pm. Two hours ago. She has vomited once and diarrhea has been about 4 or 5 times. The vomit happened after we gave her water using a dropper.
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
She is trembling.

Well...puppies this small can get dehydrated very quickly and even though she is not a small breed dog, she is still at risk for hypoglycemia due to her age. I would like to try to have you manage her at home, but she probably should have some treatment at a 24 hour facility. I realize this is inconvenient, but probably better safe than sorry.

you are recommending taking her an emergency facility?

I think you should take her, she is so young, I don't want this to snowball into something more critical.
