Hello,

I am Dr. Snow, and I can try to help you with Cooper. It sounds like he is on medication for heart failure, but you have some concerns about his breathing. Is that correct?

He was groomed today probably stressed him. Better breathing sitting up.
Dog Veterinarian: Sarah Snow,

Ok, that is helpful to know. Can you lift his lip and check his gums and see if they are nice and pink?

They look pink
Dog Veterinarian: Sarah Snow,

Ok, great. When is the last time he had his medication, specifically the furosemide?

Ask Your Own Dog Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
At dinner about 2 hours ago
Dog Veterinarian: Sarah Snow,

Ok. The fact that he is breathing better while sitting up makes me worried about fluid accumulation in his lungs. It sounds like the heart disease is worsening - it could have been brought on by the stress of grooming.

I would suggest giving another Furosemide pill right now.

If you have an emergency vet close to you, you could go there and have him x rayed to assess the lungs, and he could be put on oxygen to help him breathe.

First, though, go ahead and give him another dose of Furosemide.
