Hi. My name is***** I'm sorry to hear about this situation with your girl and her hot spot. With hot spots, the problem is there is a skin infection going on and the fur collects any moisture that exudes from the skin and this causes the area to get more irritated. Hot spots do best when the skin that is affected has been cleared / shaved of fur, it isn't rubbed any more and a systemic (oral) antibiotic is used to treat the infection from the inside. When I have a dog with a hot spot at my ER, I clip the fur from the area, clean it well, then place an E-collar on the dog so they can't scratch the area and then start up oral antibiotics.
