Peracute (sudden) swelling of the nose with gum bleeding suggests envenomation by a snake or, less commonly, a flying insect. If Bailey is having trouble breathing she needs the attention of a vet at your earliest convenience. Do you live where a venomous snake bite is likely?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Md, but not a lpt of venomous snakes. She is also 5 months old and teething and we are worried about an infection from that. Is that possible?
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 9 months ago.

She may be teething but infections secondary to teething are quite rare and the bumps on her nose, pain, and dyspnea (difficulty breathing) aren't consistent with teething.

Should we do anything for the swelling
Expert:  Dr. Michael Salkin replied 9 months ago.

An over the counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) dosed at 1-2 mg/lb (maximum dose of 50 mg) should be helpful. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
