Customer Question

My dog is a Groodle (x poodle/golden retriever. She is about 12 years old and hasn't eaten for a few days now, but is drinking water. I know she is old but the last two weeks she seems to be losing weight eating less and now she is dry wretching even if she sees food. I cannot find any of her stools, so I can't say what they look like. She is sleeping a lot and just walking slowly around the property to either shady or sunny spots to rest. We are not in a position for expensive Vet bills, but are we better off putting her down humanely?
JA: The veterinarian will know if your poodle will be able to digest that.
Customer: ???
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: What poodle and digest what??
JA: Have there been any changes in the dog's appearance or diet?
Customer: Besides loosing a lot of weight, no and the diet has been the same. But a few weeks ago she did eat sheep offal of our slaughtered lamb.
JA: Is there anything else you think the vet should know?
Customer: No, I think that is about it.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today.

Did the weight loss start before she was off food or since that started?

Can she keep the water down? Do you think she is drinking more than she used to?

Are her gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

If you press on her belly, any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Could she have eaten something she should not have (ie bones, toys, plants, chemicals, etc)?
