Hi this is Dr. HIll. What type of dog and is he dry heaving or trying to throw up?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Hello can you please help me my 7 yr old chihuahua is having a hard time today. His stomach seems to be hard and won't go number 2 at all today. I believe he is constipated, he is having a hard time walking.
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No he is not
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

Usually constipation does not cause difficulty with walking. Has he been diagnosed with a heart murmur or any other medical condition?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
He seems wobbly when walking
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No when he had a checkup he was fine he was constipated before and have to give him mirilax mixed with water and he did go after that in hours
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

When was the last bowel movement?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Yesterday and he did eat a lot last night
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

And he is not eating grass or acting nauseous?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No not this time
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
He is drinking a lot and I have pedialyte mixed with it.
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

Good. So, I would definitely give the miralax again. It is a safe product. Increased water consumption will help. Once he has a bowel movement, if his gait is not improved then he needs to be evaluated by your local veterinarian. Also, if he is getting constipated on his current diet, then his diet needs to be changed.

I read when I typed in google before you that hard stomach will kill a dog in hours i am crying my eyes out and scared he's like my child
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

A hard stomach in a large breed dog can be a sign of bloat which is lethal if not taken care of immediately. That would be extremely unlikely in a chihuahua and he would also be trying to throw up.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
He's very wobbly though
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

Wobbly usually is a sign of weakness which was why I was concerned about his heart or an issue with the legs. Could he have gotten into anything, such as sugar free gum or chocolate?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
No not at all
Expert:  Kelly Hill replied 10 months ago.

So it sounds like Miralax would be a reasonable start and if he is not walking more normally after having a bowel movement, then he needs to be seen by a veterinarian locally. Please ask any follow up questions. You can post on this thread for a couple of days, even after rating my response. Take care
