Customer Question

I have a pit/lab mix with lupus.D.L.E. It will cost almost 600 dollars for blood work and medications. I do not have the money to have it done at a veterinarians. I am living in California and desperately need some advice on where to take him. I keep him very clean and he has no lesions or open sores. I stay on top of this with baby wipes and triple antibiotic ointment. But his nose is very sensitive and sore most of the time.. I buy summer sausage and the oil from that is what I try to keep on it. He just kicks off anything that I put on his nose. What do you suggest. I read about sod type of Sun blocks.

Can you attach pictures of the areas of concern?
Is he currently on any medication?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
He tends to get sores on his underside mostly. Sometimes on his side's.
And his nose is peeling. Real coarse.
He should be taking prednisone.
He does eat well and gets daily vitamins.
And I also take him out at night on sunny days.
And keep him out of the Sun as much as possible.
He is kept very clean also. He gets bathed every other day.
I wipe his belly with baby wipes every night and put triple antibiotic ointment on his belly area also and any where else.
But it cost quit a bit of money to get blood work and medications.
I just cannot afford to pay for it.
What should be put on his nose?
I have been putting animal fat on it.
The liquid that goes to the bottom of the clear bag that has summer sausage in it.
It seems to work.
But mostly I need help with finding medical treatment and meds that are affordable.
I absolutely hate to see him like this.

Perhaps the easiest route here is going to be looking for supplemental funding. Here are some resources:

You can also consider starting a GoFundMe account to raise funds to have the medical workup and medications.

Doggles, NutriVet, and Vet’s Best companies all make non-toxic sunscreen without zinc oxide that can be used on the nose. As well, coconut oil has some sunscreen properties and can be used on this area as well. It has an SPF around 4.
