Customer Question

My small munsterlander 42 pounds may have invested celevoxib 200 mg after he chewed the top of the bottle. This happened at approx 9 am today. He looks and acts fine now. What should I consider doing?

Celecoxib, perhaps? How many hours ago was 9 AM for you?

If so, please note that celecoxib is not consistently metabolized by dogs. Some dogs metabolize it quickly whereas some metabolize it more slowly. Thus a single dose for all dogs could not be established and so this nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug wasn't approved for use in dogs.

You don't appear to be available. Worrisome symptoms which would prompt a vet visit include vomiting (particularly with blood in the vomitus), diarrhea, increased thirst, and anorexia. This drug can cause gastrointestinal distress, and both hepatic and renal toxicity. I have to leave my computer and so I'll opt out which will give another expert the opportunity to respond to you should you return to this conversation.
